About the SOC Team

Proact’s Security Operations Centre (SOC) is comprised of skilled professionals with experience across a wide range of platforms and technologies, delivering a comprehensive set of security services. The team combines technical expertise with strong operational processes to deliver effective and resilient security outcomes.

The SOC operates 24/7, providing continuous monitoring and response capabilities. Within the SOC, the Operations function plays a central role in the investigation and response to security events, supporting both Proact and customer environments.

The SOC also operates a structured Graduate programme, where continuous education, mentoring, and hands-on experience form the foundation of development.

Role Summary

This is a temporary opportunity covering an internal secondment for an anticipated period of approximately 14 months. The successful candidate will join Proact's 24x7x365 Security Operations Centre, working a shift pattern of four days on, four days off, comprising 12-hour shifts, including weekends and public holidays. This role provides an opportunity to play a key part in the monitoring, investigation, response, and continuous improvement of security operations across both Proact and customer environments.

It requires strong analytical thinking, enabling the identification of patterns, anomalies, and potential threats from large volumes of data. A high level of attention to detail is essential to ensure accuracy in monitoring, investigation, and reporting activities.

Effective communication skills are key, with the ability to clearly articulate technical information to both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders. A positive attitude towards continuous learning is fundamental, alongside a genuine interest in the evolving cyber threat landscape.

The role also requires the ability to follow defined processes and instructions with accuracy and consistency, while maintaining the confidence to think independently when investigating unfamiliar scenarios. The ideal candidate will demonstrate logical problem-solving skills, curiosity when faced with unknowns, and the initiative to escalate or investigate issues appropriately.

Additionally, success in this role depends on the ability to remain composed under pressure, work collaboratively within a shift-based team environment, and maintain a strong sense of accountability when handling sensitive systems and information.

Professional Skills and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in cyber security, Information Security, or a related discipline, achieved at a minimum classification of 2:2

• Eligibility to obtain HMG Security Check - SC - clearance

• A solid foundation in core IT and security concepts, including networking, operating systems, and basic security principles

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document findings and explain technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences

• A genuine interest in Cyber Security, demonstrated through academic study, personal development, or extracurricular learning, alongside a proactive willingness to continuously develop knowledge and skills

Core Responsibilities

• Produce high-quality security analysis, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency in reporting

• Monitor security events and alerts, identifying anomalies, patterns, and potential Indicators of Compromise (IoCs)

• Review authentication activity and system behaviour to detect suspicious or unusual access patterns

• Support the identification, assessment, and prioritisation of vulnerabilities across monitored environments

• Notify customers and internal stakeholders of potential risks, providing clear, actionable insights

• Assist in security investigations, gathering and analysing evidence to support incident response activities

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of SOC processes, detection capabilities, and operational effectiveness

• Operate within defined SLAs and escalation procedures, ensuring timely and effective response to security events

• Continue to develop technical expertise across key areas, including
  - Networking
  - Operating systems
  - Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  - Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
  - Emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and its application in cyber security

• Participate in a structured shift pattern, contributing to the continuous monitoring and operational coverage of the SOC

• Contribute to team knowledge sharing, supporting a collaborative learning environment and continuous improvement across the SOC
